about
“I Remember Everything” is the first single off the Prine Songs EP, a collection of John Prine covers performed by Jon DeRosa (Aarktica) and Kendall Jane Meade (Mascott), It was produced by Charles Newman (Magnetic Fields, Bones of J.R. Jones) at his Cottage Sounds studio in Los Angeles.
On this version of Prine's last recorded song, Kendall takes the lead with Jon providing background vocals reminiscent of classic country and gospel recordings. The song also features Doug Pettibone (Lucinda Williams) on pedal steel. Doug has played with some of the most influential artists of our times and shared some Prine stories he had experienced when he had played with him over the years.
Meade says "When I first heard ‘I Remember Everything’, the lyrics moved me. So simple, yet so emotional. When I heard that it was the last song that Prine recorded before his death, I knew it was a song that I wanted to cover in his honor. In addition to his incredible musicianship, the fact that Doug knew Prine personally makes this recording even more special.”
lyrics
I've been down this road before
I remember every tree
Every single blade of grass
Holds a special place for me
And I remember every town
And every hotel room
Every song I ever sang
On a guitar out of tune
I remember everything
Things I can't forget
The way you turned and smiled on me
On the night that we first met
And I remember every night
Your ocean eyes of blue
How I miss you in the morning light
Like roses miss the dew
I've been down this road before
Alone as I can be
Careful not to let my past
Go sneaking up on me
Got no future in my happiness
Though regrets are very few
Sometimes a little tenderness
Was the best that I could do
I remember everything
Things I can't forget
Swimming pools of butterflies
That slipped right through the net
And I remember every night
Your ocean eyes of blue
How I miss you in the morning light
Like roses miss the dew
How I miss you in the morning light
Like roses miss the dew
