What Brings You
Remix by Emiliano Melis

Written by Kris Gruen and Brad Gordon

After Kris released his new album Coast and Refuge this past June, the first single "What Brings You" caught the ear of his label mate, Emiliano Melis (Echo of The Ghost), who immediately offered to collaborate on a remix. For this, Emiliano brought in his Echo of the Ghost bandmate, Claudia Chopek, to add her soaring violins to his dark electro production. What emerged is an atmospheric, beat-driven take on the song, from it's dreamy lo-fi trails to lush strings and vocal chants, this mix is sure to bring Kris's melodies and anthemic hooks to a new audience.

Every track on Gruen's Coast & Refuge is a collaboration, so Kris stayed in theme when thinking about the cover art for this remix and looked to NYC based artist, Ellizabeth Gregory-Gruen, who explores emotion and movement using free-hand scalpel cut multilayer imagery. The artwork on the cover is titled 'Red Fade’. It is part of Elizabeth Gregory-Gruen’s cut work Transcendence series, where the cut layers make space for shadows to fall and move with the vibration of life; imperfection is the perfection. There are no expectations, only discovery.

Kris says of the image "It really feels like a depiction of the texture of the piece for me. Elizabeth's work is symmetrical without being predictable, which made me think of the Electronica/Americana mashup in Emilano's production".

Elizabeth Gregory-Gruen’s Transcendence series will be on display at the Ivy Brown Gallery located at 675 Hudson St. 4th flr. New York City from September 12 - October 17, 2018
